Is there a way to screen for a student in the admissions process for whom TBL is indeed the right fit? As part of our Physician Assistant Studies Program admissions process at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, potential students are placed in random teams and asked to participate in an imaginative team application exercise. Trained facilitators observe the applicants as they discuss and negotiate in their teams, and using a scoring rubric, grade both positive and negative team behaviors. This two-hour interactive workshop will include a hands-on experience of our simulated group process, an explanation of our rubric, and an opportunity to test inter-rater reliability of the rubric. Pre-reading will be assessed with a brief IRAT/TRAT, and discussion will encourage workshop participants to apply our piloted approach to their unique situations.
